Privacy Policy

All personal information is collected lawfully and in accordance with the Data Protection Act and General Data Protection Regulation.

This Privacy Policy describes how your personal information is collected, used, and shared when you visit or make a purchase from www.thehappycross-stitcher.com (the “Site”).

 

PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT

When you visit the Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, IP address, time zone, and some of the cookies that are installed on your device. Additionally, as you browse the Site, we collect information about the individual web pages or products that you view, what websites or search terms referred you to the Site, and information about how you interact with the Site. We refer to this automatically-collected information as “Device Information”.

The website is not designed for children, we do not market children nor do we knowingly collect personal information from or about children. If you are under the age of 18, and wish to use this site please ask your parent or guardian to do so on your behalf.

We collect Device Information using the following technologies:

- “Cookies” are data files that are placed on your device or computer and often include an anonymous unique identifier. For more information about cookies, and how to disable cookies, visit http://www.allaboutcookies.org.

- “Log files” track actions occurring on the Site, and collect data including your IP address, browser type, Internet service provider, referring/exit pages, and date/time stamps.

- “Web beacons”, “tags”, and “pixels” are electronic files used to record information about how you browse the Site.

Additionally when you make a purchase or attempt to make a purchase through the Site, we collect certain information from you, including your name, address, date of birth, telephone number, email address and order details. We also collect your IP address for security. We refer to this information as “Order Information”.

When we talk about “Personal Information” in this Privacy Policy, we are talking both about Device Information and Order Information.

All credit card payments are processed via Shopify Payments or PayPal, the bulk of which are input directly through the Shopify Payments or PayPal websites by yourself, transfer from The Happy Cross Stitcher website to Shopify Payments or PayPal is securely encrypted. Any telephone payment details taken are processed via a Shopify Payments virtual terminal and the details destroyed immediately using a confetti cut shredder. No credit card data is stored by myself under any circumstances.

 

HOW DO WE USE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?

We use the Order Information that we collect generally to fulfil any orders placed through the Site (including processing your payment information, arranging for shipping, and providing you with invoices and/or order confirmations). Additionally, we use this Order Information to:

- Communicate with you;

- Screen our orders for potential risk or fraud; and

- When in line with the preferences you have shared with us, provide you with information or advertising relating to our products or services.

 

We use the Device Information that we collect to help us screen for potential risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address), and more generally to improve and optimize our Site (for example, by generating analytics about how our customers browse and interact with the Site, and to assess the success of our marketing and advertising campaigns).

We use re-marketing, this involves placing a cookie on your computer when you browse our website so that we can show you an advert for our products or services when you visit another website. We may use a third party to provide us with re-marketing services from time to time. If so, then if you have consented to our use of cookies, you may see adverts for our products and services on other sites.

 

SHARING YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

We share your Personal Information with third parties to help us use your Personal Information, as described above. On a rare occasion an order is delayed, it might be quicker to ask a manufacturer or supplier to post out an item directly to you. In this case, we will supply your name and address only to allow the manufacturer to post the goods directly and complete the order.

Finally, we may also share your Personal Information to comply with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to a subpoena, search warrant or other lawful request for information we receive, or to otherwise protect our rights.

Additionally, if you are a European resident we note that we are processing your information in order to fulfil contracts we might have with you (for example if you make an order through the Site), or otherwise to pursue our legitimate business interests listed above. Additionally, please note that your information will be transferred outside of Europe, including to Canada and the United States.

 

DATA RETENTION

When you place an order through the Site, one paper copy of every order placed is kept for approximately 6 years for accounting purposes, as per the HMRC requirements and then destroyed securely, we use a secure, professional shredding service. Electronic order details are kept for approximately 6 months before deletion.

Paperwork within the current six year period is stored in dated boxes in a hidden storage area within my home, which is alarmed. The alarm is checked and serviced on an annual basis. Paperwork from the current year is stored in my home office which also has a lockable door and is transferred to the storage area when the box is full. Paperwork kept consists of the customer’s name, address, telephone number, email address and items ordered only, no payment details are stored.

Customer accounts are checked regularly and any that have not been used for approximately six months are deleted. Should you wish to have your account details deleted at any time, please call 01325 240192 or email using the contact page.

Customers can re-register at any time.

All orders are posted using Royal Mail or a courier if necessary. All orders are processed by myself, I have no employees.

CHANGES

We may update this privacy policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to our practices or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons.

MINORS

The Site is not intended for individuals under the age of 18
