Collection: Long Stitch Kits

Welcome to our range of fabulous long stitch kits from beginner to expert. Each kit includes outline printed canvas, wool or thread, needle, chart and easy to follow instructions.

Long stitch is an embroidery technique which involves combining stitches in a variety of lengths to create an image or pattern. It became very popular in the 1970's and is very fast and easy to stitch. The definition of a long stitch is one straight stitch worked to any length in one direction, though most long stitch kits use a vertical stitch.

Long stitch kits usually have the design outline printed onto the canvas, a bit like painting by numbers but with needle and thread, but can also be counted from a chart.

*please note cushion kits do not include pad or backing fabric unless otherwise stated*

Long stitch kits are a fantastic way to begin stitching, especially if you’re new to embroidery or returning after a break. They provide clear instructions, pre-printed fabric, and the right threads in one ready-to-go package.

Getting started with your first long stitch kit

1. Prep your workspace: Clear a comfortable, well-lit area. Have a storage tray or small container for scraps.
2. Read the instructions: Familiarise yourself with the colour key, stitch diagram and stitch directions as indicated by the chart.
3. Use manageable thread lengths to avoid tangles. Some kits instruct you to use several strands at once; follow the instructions within the kit.
4. Maintain even tension: Your stitches should lie flat and not pucker the fabric. Practice makes perfect, so don’t worry if your first attempts aren’t flawless.
5. Keep fabric taut but not stretched too tightly; you may wish to use a hoop or frame.
6. Dealing with colour changes: When a new colour is required, secure the previous thread neatly on the back before starting a new colour.
7. Managing the back: Keep the back tidy; weave in thread tails as you go to prevent loose strands from catching.
8. Enjoy it!
